The Scottish Highlands: 20-26 October (6 nights, 7 days). 7 places.
The Highlands in the far North are perhaps the most varied landscapes in all of Scotland. The switchback alpine passes of Bealach Na Bà in Applecross (Scotland's most dramatic drive) lead to magnificent views over to the Inner Hebrides. The massive mountains, deep steep glens & beautiful lochs of Torridon represent Scotland at its most sublime. This is the world of lone Scots Pines and hidden bothies which make this area so wonderful to photograph. We will visit the beaches in Gruinard Bay and Achmelvich which face west, so great for sunsets. We will also travel further north to Assynt where isolated peaks like Stac Pollaidh & Suilven dominate the lochans. Ruined castles on islands in the middle of lochs like Ardvrek Castle make for stunning romantic motifs. For wildlife photographers this is the place to see eagles, both Golden & Sea Eagles, Britain's largest bird.
We will stay in two locations to make the most of this beautiful area of the country. 3 nights in the lovely Tigh an Eilean hotel in Shieldaig, Applecross, and then on to the Caledonian hotel in Ullapool for another 3 nights. Pick up and drop off will be Inverness airport.
