Dorset

6-10 October

(5 days, 4 nights. 7 spaces max)

Corfe Castle dawn & mist
Kimmeridge Bay coastline
Durdle Door Dorset coastline

Dorset is one of England's most lovely counties. A beautiful coastline & wonderful history & heritage in-land. We will base ourselves in Purbeck so we can make the most of the stunning countryside: Durdle Door of course, & Harry's Rocks, Lulworth Cove, Kimmeridge Bay and Corfe Castle, which, with a bit of luck we might get to photograph on a misty morning! Round the corner is Bournemouth with its lovely pier. & Poole harbour. Just slightly further afield is Chisel Beach and Portland with its famous lighthouse, Portland Bill. We will also travel in land to Cerne Abbas & its 55 metre tall naked chalk giant, and then on to Sherborne, Dorset's prettiest town. Gold Hill/Shaftesbury is close by (think of the famous downhill street in the Hovis ad). The mill at Sturminster Newton is reflected beautifully in the River Stour. Dorset has many National Trust properties but the loveliest is perhaps Kingston Lacy which resembles an Italian palace. We will stay in the Bankes Arms Hotel, just next to Corfe Castle so we can make the most of this supreme location.
